Brand Spotlight | LOVAS Wesley Badanjak

My Filosophy is proud to welcome LOVAS Wesley Badanjak to our fashionable family of Canadian brands. Born and bred in Toronto and armed with a Bachelor of Design Honours degree from Ryerson University, designer Wesley Badanjak has garnered many awards for his distinctive style.

In 2008, Badanjak founded LOVAS with the vision to make every woman feel exceptional, regardless of age, race or size. “Women need to be true to their personal tastes and really work to dress the body they have, not the body they want,” says Badanjak, which is a filosophy we truly believe in. “Taking stock of your best features and playing them up with the proper clothes and accessories will make any woman look slim, svelte and confident.” What we love about LOVAS? The brand focuses on classic, tailored silhouettes, fashion forward looks and luxurious fabrics that are remarkably wearable. Just a few features we know our Filosophistas will adore!

Badanjak believes that the Canadian woman, the LOVAS woman, is very discerning. She wants fashion but is not a slave to trends, is savvy and sophisticated, and has an open view on style, coming from such a multicultural country. His love of history and Canadian heritage has inspired him to design his Fall|Winter 2011 collection around the story of his mother’s immigration from Croatia to Canada. It is a fusion of modern elements, retro cuts and traditional Slavic prints.

Adventures in Aventura

I love to wear Joeffer Caoc dresses and could wear them every single day. Well, almost every single day.

We all have those days: the lazy Sundays when we just want to kick back and wear whatever or the casual Friday at the lake when we just want to wear something comfortable by the campfire. My jersey dresses are beyond comfortable, but are they really camping or hiking appropriate? Joeffer dresses are perfect for lunch out with friends or a quick errand or two, sure, but for those days that I want to run around, go hiking or maybe spend time paying with the nephew, I need something else. I need Aventura.

The brand’s mission is to provide great, comfortable eco-friendy clothing to women. This is an outdoorsy and casual brand, and looks great paired with a Chloe Angus top and Flojo flip flops. A pair of Aventura capris or shorts is the perfect companion for any weekend adventure. I can’t wait to wear my sparrow brown Aventura shorts for summer walks in the Devonian Gardens this summer. Best of all, the Aventura line is machine washable and hassle-free which is great for any woman who plans on spending time outdoors this summer. Regardless of how hard we try, it’s impossible to keep our clothes clean at the best of times, let alone when we’re sitting lake-side helping the kids build sandcastles.

If you’re looking for some great weekend clothing, stop by My Filosophy to try on Aventura. With a great variety of pieces from shorts to capris, dresses to jackets, you’ll easily find that perfect piece for your next adventure!

The Best Brights this Season

Each season, we look forward to the new fashions arriving at My Filosophy. Fall, with its cozy sweaters and trendy boots, is regarded as the biggest fashion season of the year. Children go back to school, men and women return to work after summer vacations, and stores sell a plethora of gorgeous outfits to get you ready and in style for the season ahead. Shelves and racks are stocked with dark, rich colors, and the clothing is fun yet functional for the winter ahead.

This Filosophista, however, is a spring gal. I do adore shopping in the fall – any excuse to go out and to buy gorgeous new clothes is a good one, but I am not nearly as excited for the fall as I am for the spring. And this spring, there is nothing I am more excited for than the new Joeffer Caoc pieces coming to My Filosophy!

I wear something by Joeffer Caoc nearly every day of the week. His classic cardigans are a staple in my daily wardrobe, and I love his dresses more than anything else in my closet. Sadly, the winter is a touch too cold for dresses unless you layer hard: tights, a chunky cardigan, boots, a scarf, maybe a set of earmuff… And I try not to play favorites, but I prefer the spring shades so much more. Sure, black, brown, red and navy are great wardrobe staples, but somewhere around mid-January, I’m desperate to get more fun brights in my closet. Isn’t winter depressing enough with the lack of color outside and abundance of poor weather?

This season, Joeffer’s jersey pieces feature three fantastic bright tones, and I can’t wait! His jersey collection is still made of the same luxurious, machine washable jersey we all know and love, but the new jersey colors are stunning and lust-worthy:

1. Cobalt.

Blue is the hue of peace and tranquility. Regardless of the hectic occasion you’re heading to, you’ll feel calm and collected in this cool blue dress.

2. Fuchsia

This show stopping color is rarely found in nature and is an instant attention grabber. Do you want everyone to notice you when you walk into a room? Wear this gorgeous dress and all eyes will be on you!

3. Kelly Green

What is more fun and fresh than green? It’s a surprisingly under worn color but looks great on many women. This color is easy on the eyes and a perfect color for any day!

I will be picking up at least one dress in each color. A woman can really never have too many dresses in her closet, don’t you agree? And for those of you who prefer more natural and neutral shades, there are some great wardrobe basics from Joeffer Caoc at My Filosophy this season as well!

The Kairos Soho: A new and unexpected love

OH Filosophistas, I have so many friends who love shoes and handbags. They love the excitement of sliding their feet into a new pair of heels, and they love the excitement of taking a new purse for a night on the town. I do not share their excitement.

To me a handbag is just that, a bag to lug around my life. Unfortunately, my wallet, lipstick, keys, hand moisturizer do not usually fit in my pockets so I would constantly carry a ratty old tote bag with me.

A friend of mine, tired of my awful tote bag, bought me a Kairos Soho from My Filosophy. At first, I was a little weary. I was in love with the rich, gorgeous, Italian leather, but would the across-the-body style suit me? Would the Soho carry the belongings that I insist on schlepping with me on a day-to-day basis? How would this stunning bag compare to my trusted tote bag?

In order to put my bag to the test, I took the Soho on vacation with me. I am a light traveler, and the Soho was the perfect airport companion. It carried my passport, my wallet, a snack, my novel and the usual plethora of lotions, lip glosses and pens I love need to carry. As the trip went on, I fell more in love with the Soho and its features each day. The across-the-body style was perfect for a hands-free, worry-free way to carry my belongings, and no matter what I put in there, it was easy to carry. Plus, with both compartments zipped up, I had no worries about my belongings falling out or going missing!

Needless to say, my disgusting tote bag has been put in the back of the closet where it belongs, and my Kairos Soho has become my day-to-day bag! I love my new bag (and I know exactly what I’m buying my mom and my sisters for their birthdays)!

Xoxo

-F

Good-Bye Foot Foes! Hello Footpetals!

Filosophistas, I will tell you a secret. I’m in love with my high heel shoes but underneath all the glam, I’m in pain. My toes are cramped, the balls of my feet are burning, my heel is aching. Inside, I want to cry.

“Help!” I called out and I was saved. Footpetal products heard and answered.

Footpetals have been reuniting comfort with fashionable footwear since 2001. They offer a huge collection of solution oriented products for women’s feet.

As a California, USA manufactured and distributed product, Footpetals ensure the highest quality product of materials in each petal. Made with a high performance urethane called Poron, it says, “No!” to odor, bacteria and excess moisture. It also acts as a shock absorber, prevents calluses and keeps your feet in place.

Personally, my favorite is the Footpetals Tip Toes. Tip Toes are great for all of my high heels including my cute booties. Not only do they act as a shock absorber for the balls of my feet but they also prevent my toesies from getting smooshed. Tip Toes lengthen the time I can wear my shoes. I can almost hear my feet breathe a sigh of relief with the Footpetals.

For days when flats are the only way to go, I wear my Footpetals Haute Heelz. This product acts as a heel cushion and has been a pillow of goodness to my feet. Suddenly, I can feel my posture straighten.

Footpetals have a variety of great products for all problem areas of the feet including:

Heavenly Heelz – Help keep heels from slipping in and out of shoes

Strappy Strips – Help slouchy slingbacks

KillerKushionz – Prevent Toe Scrunch and provide ultimate support

Sole Stopperz – Non-slip grips to protect soles from wear and tear

Amazing Arches – Reduce foot fatigue and support arches

Treat your feet and make them happy again with Footpetals products!

Tip: Footpetals come with 3M tape at the bottom of each petal. Test around the various positions of the products because once they’re in, they’re in!

xoxo

-F

SOAK: A gift to your unmentionables

Dear Filosophistas,

In my travels, the #1 thing I wish I had with me while abroad was my washer and dryer. Sadly, a Maytag doesn’t fit in my suitcase nor does it follow the 50lb weight limit.

Luckily, SOAK came to the rescue. Soak is a rinse-free solution to all my washing issues. This modern care formula is perfect for washing your gentlest of fibers or for garments that need a quick booster-upper.

With 1 tsp of SOAK in a cold water basin, it will bubble up like your favorite detergent. Throw your clothes in and walk away for at least 15 minutes. When the time is up, pull your clothes out and gently squeeze out any excess water. Then, just hang to dry. That’s right, no need to rinse. Your clothes will come out smelling fresh and revitalised for the next wear. It’s that easy. Just soak.

This miracle formula is available in 3 great scents – Flora, Aqua & Celebration. There is even a Scentless version for those with sensitive skin.

Pick up a bottle of SOAK for your travels and to use at home. (A gift to your unmentionables).

Get Wrapped Up for the Holiday Season with Chloe Angus

Dear Filosophistas,

Last year something horrible happened to me. My holiday shopping list was growing instead of shrinking. What’s worse, a certain date was looming and I still had no idea what to get most of the ladies on my list.

But not this year, Filosophistas. This year, I’m ready and I won’t have to resort to something horrid like shampoo. (My most un-Filosophista moment.)

This year I plan on attending Canadian designing darling Chloe Angus’ Trunk Show and Designer Showcase at My Filosophy. The Vancouver designer’s Trunk Show is Friday, November 5, 2010 from 4:00pm to 8:00pm at My Filosophy’s Crestwood location. The next day, I’m hopping over to My Filosophy’s Accessory Kiosk at Southgate Centre for Chloe Angus’ Designer Showcase from 10:00am to 6:00pm on Saturday, November 6, 2010.

I plan on meeting Chloe Angus and watching her demonstrate how to wear her oh-so-chic wrap (which, by the way, can be worn over 20 different ways!).So there you go, Filosophistas. In one fell swoop, I’ll have picked up wraps for:

My Mother

My Sister

My Sister-in-Law

My Mother-in-Law

My two best friends

And my Brother’s Girlfriend

And… myself. (I really need the new fall colour in cobalt. No, lime. No, both!).

Well obviously I still have a few kinks in my holiday shopping list to work out. But, with all the gorgeous choices in colour and fabrics (bamboo cotton and wool) these are decisions I like to make.

Until next time Filosophistas,

XOXO

Baby & Me: Baby Not Included

My dear Filosophistas,

There are no qualms about it, I love to shop. But for me, it’s so much more than that. I am not one of those women who simply settles for so-called ‘retail therapy.’ No, I love the hunt. I adore the meticulous search of finding exactly what I’m looking for. I love trying on the gorgeous item and finding it was practically made for me. Then, the trip conquered, there’s nothing better than having it wrapped up in pretty paper and sent home with me. Ahh… shopping.

But Filosophistas, I have something to admit. Around this time of year, I begin to panic. You see, my hunt & gather abilities begin to pitter out horribly around Christmas. Here is my confession: I can’t shop for others. I get all in a tizzy of:

“What if it doesn’t fit?”
“What if they think it’s ugly?”
“What if they never wear it?”
“What if they think I have no taste?!”

So my dears, I was so relieved when I found out about My Filosophy’s Baby & Me event. Not only is it free, but if you RSVP before the date, you get a fantastic gift. So, Filosophistas, RSVP by either calling either My Filosophy store or email at rsvp@myfilosophy.com

Then, show up on Wednesday October 20th from 4pm to 8pm at My Filosophy’s Crestwood location and Princess & the Pea in Crestwood Mall. There, you’ll get shopping help for everyone on your list from fashion experts at both My Filosophy and Princess & The Pea. Enjoy a stress-free shopping experience and enjoy appetizers provided by d’Lish Urban Kitchen & Wine Bar. What could be better you ask? If you spend at both stores, Filsophistas, you get an amazing swag bag.

Only an un-Filosophista would dare not attend this event. Because ladies and gentlemen, if you do attend the Baby & Me event, something fabulous happens… you can go back to shopping for yourself, stress free!

Until next time,

XOXO

Style Me Fabulous

My dear Filosophistas,

It happens to the best of us. You’re getting ready to leave the house for:

a)	Work
b)	Dinner with friends
c)	Errands
d)	Vacation
e)	Date night

Regardless of the event, you stand there poised on the precipice of the unknown: your closet. Time is moving on without you and you’ve now been standing there for fifteen, twenty, thirty minutes. Then, the classic line, “I’ve got nothing to wear!”

But my dear Filosophistas, I have your solution on how to combat your chaotic closet. It’s rather easy, jot down this date in your day timer: October 2nd. On that date, My Filosophy is hosting a Style Me Fabulous event at the Crestwood location.

What’s simply fabulous about this event is Style Expert Catherine Dunwoody will be giving two exclusive tutorials on how to create the perfect wardrobe, one at 10AM and the second at 1PM.

Catherine Dunwoody’s title of Style Expert is not one I toss around lightly. She’s held editor positions at LouLou, Real Weddings and Fashion Magazine. She’s contributed to Flare, Chatelaine and is a regular style expert on the Shopping Bags and numerous other television programs.

With a client list that includes The Bay, MAC Cosmetics and Holt Renfrew, Catherine Dunwoody has the pulse on fashion. What’s more, as a fashion stylist, she’s created looks for celebrities such as Jessica Alba and Sarah McLachlan.

Now, if styling Sarah McLachlan isn’t enough, Catherine Dunwoody has a simple ‘filosophy’ on dressing. Every wardrobe must be comprised of three categories:

1.	Basics
2.	Trends
3.	Splurges

To find out what pieces your closet needs, stop by My Filosophy on Saturday October 2nd. Even the most fabulous Filosophista needs a refreshing lesson in dressing.

Until next time,

XOXO

Every season Filosophistas everywhere search high and low for that one perfect accessory to complete their wardrobe. Well, look no further! I am about to share with you my little secret to updating any outfit – from your basic cashmere sweater to your trendy jewel-toned dress.
This stylish and practical belt shown in tan leather (my personal favourite!) also comes in black, red, royal purple, chocolate and almond. Designer Susana Erazo only uses the finest leather, hand-picked from local suppliers and vegetable-dyed resulting in the most vibrant colours. Susana will be at My Filosophy’s Crestwood location on Saturday, September 25th, to show her new collection. Why not stop by and get style tips on how to wear this must-have belt by the designer herself and grab one before they’re all gone!

If there is one garment that every woman needs in her wardrobe, it’s the little black dress. This wardrobe staple has been in women’s closets for decades and won’t be going out of style any time soon. There is no reason you won’t want to wear yours to parties, on dates and for any occasion you want to feel elegant. Even if you only have the opportunity to wear your little black dress to the grocery store, there needs to be one in your closet.

The New Utility Pant

The term “utility pants” never lured me into thinking “OMG, I need those pants!” especially when you think of baggy, unflattering, khaki pants that you find on the “Screaming Deal!” rack of some major department store. I was never one for the “cargo” pants either. Keys, wallet, cellphone, chapstick: that’s what cute handbags are for.

Well, say “ta-ta” to your ratty, old “utility” pants and say “oh, hello!” to the wonderful world of Sanctuary Clothing. Based in Los Angeles, California, Sanctuary Clothing has made a name for itself by designing high quality and fabulously tailored casual pants. At first glance, they look like regular trousers but slip them on for the first time and you’ll fall in love. Their military inspired styles have been updated to showcase the best of the female figure. You won’t find super wide or super baggy features with Sanctuary – just clean and classic lines with a hard edge. They feel great and have the perfect amount of stretch for your daily activities. Yes, you may find a pocket mid-thigh but they’re far from “cargo.” The pockets are designed to keep necessities in, not sticking out.

They’re available in-store now but they’re not lasting long. The word is out and everyone wants to get their hands on the new Sanctuary!

Ode to the Boots That Have Yet to Arrive

I want to hear the crisp clean crumble,
Of dried leaves under my riding boots as we tumble,,
Down, down the hill, rolling in colours of burnt orange, browns and greens,,
Frolicking in fall hues as my pants stay put in my boot, pristine.,

The autumn wind will rise and swirl,
But I will stay warm, caressed by the finest Italian leather.
When the air becomes crisp, my knee-high boots will unfurl,
Out of the closet and paired with my Joeffer Caoc Obi skirt, cute in fall weather.

When my breath mists the air,
I’ll step out in suede booties and Bleu Forêt tights, what fanfare.
But that’s not all; my pewter wool Chloe Angus wrap will shine,
Paired with buttery brown leather, shiny gold buckles, entwined.

Oh Cole Haan and Donald J Pliner,
You’ve evaded my dreams and held me in boot-rapture.
It might only be September, but my mind is on leather and suede; materials finer.
I need your boots, my heart is yours, captured.

For whatever will I do, once fall fades to winter?
And the snow is three feet deep, what if I splinter?
There shan’t be a worry, because I’ll look smashing in OVER the knee boots!
It’ll look so hot with my Fidelity denim; a movement will start – grassroots.

There you have it, in prose form,
My ”Ode to the Boots That Have Yet to Arrive.”
But I know my boot-ardour is not alone; in fact Filosophistas will swarm,
As boxes of boots land and this poem will be decoded in closets, derived.

Until next time my Filosophistas,

XOXO,

– F

My Filosophy Summer Trend Report

The My Filosophy summer sale is underway, and it’s the perfect time to shop for some great pieces to enjoy for the summer! Here are four of the top fashion trends for this season that you can find at My Filosophy. Stop by before July 18, 2010, to enjoy great savings on these gorgeous trends!

1. Dramatic Draping

One of the hottest trends for summer 2010 is clothing with elements of draping. Draping is a women’s best friend as it adds depth and uniqueness to garments. Magic happens when fabric is layered, gathered, and rouched. Our body imperfections are elegantly concealed and attention is directed to our best features.

2. Flirty and Fun Floral Prints

What says summer better than a fun, bold and colorful floral print? After months of bundled layers and solid colors, there is no better way to celebrate summer and add some cheer to your wardrobe than to indulge in a fresh-picked floral print garment. If you are not a big flower fan, you can still easily work the floral print trend into your wardrobe with accessories and shoes!

3. Gorgeous Shades of Nude

Karamea Danielle Dress reg. $325.00, 20% off until 07/18/10

The most popular trends seen on red carpets this season is clothing in shades of nudes. This versatile trend can be carried from day wear to evening wear and worn dozens of different ways! Best of all, there is a flattering nude for every woman. Nudes can be easily incorporated into your wardrobe and worn with pieces you already love. Black and nude look fabulous together, so try a nude top with your favorite black skirt or a pair of gorgeous nude pumps with your favorite black dress!

4. Dazzling Shades of Hot Pink

Although nudes and white are dominating wardrobes this season, do not forget to add a burst of summer color to your wardrobe! This summer, hot pink is showing up in splashes everywhere. A great way to introduce this sizzling color to your wardrobe is with fun and easy accessories. If you love hot pink and want more; pair a hot pink dress with sexy pumps and great jewelry for a gorgeous summer look.

Online Hanky Panky Sale: A Celebration of our Favorite Underwear!

Getting dressed in the morning used to start with the same debate; comfortable underwear with visible panty lines versus sexy underwear. Although putting on underwear is usually step one to getting dressed, I used to pick my pair for the day after my outfit was all ready to go. If I could get away with wearing my ugly, comfortable underwear, you can bet that’s what I was wearing for the day. If I was wearing a pair of pants or a skirt that would show visible panty lines, I would pick a pair of usually uncomfortable underwear that would ensure I had no visible panty lines. And when did I wear the sexier pairs in my underwear drawer? Well, honestly, never.

Thankfully, My Filosophy has resolved my daily underwear debate for good. After being introduced to their favorite underwear brand, Hanky Panky, I instantly fell in love. The Hanky Panky thong is everything you could want in a pair of underwear: comfort, no visible panty lines and sexy. At first I was skeptical, but all my doubts washed away. My Hanky Panky thong felt incredible, looked fantastic, and made me feel sexier and more confident. Needless to say, I threw out all my old, ugly and uncomfortable pairs of underwear and replaced them with new, gorgeous pairs of Hanky Panky in a rainbow of colours.

Hanky Panky, an American lingerie company, designs and produces hundreds of different colours and dozens of different styles. Not only is all their underwear flirty, feminine and sexy; it is also known for its incredible comfort and won’t cause visible panty lines. Every pair of Hanky Panky is made in the USA, and the company strives to be as ethical and sustainable as possible. What more could you ask for in a pair of underwear?

To celebrate our favorite underwear, My Filosophy is having a Hanky Panky sale at our online store. When you buy any Hanky Panky thong at www.myfilosophy.com between June 1 and June 14, you will receive 25% off every thong with the promotion code ASHBURY.

Denim, Denim Everywhere and Not a Pair to Wear

Filosophistas, do you fear jean shopping? Shopping for the perfect pair of jeans can be a nightmare. We have all had it. They are too short, too long, don’t flatter the hips, don’t flatter the bum, gap in the back…. oh and the dreaded muffin-top. (Admit it! It has happened to the best of us.)

Although finding that great pair of denim can seem to be a challenge as insurmountable as climbing Mount Everest, taking the time and effort is well worth it. Once you have found the perfect pair, you will want to live in them. Literally!

Here are a few tips:

- Come prepared to try on a bunch of different pairs.

- Don’t get discouraged if the first pair you try don’t flatter you. With the many different cuts and washes available today there is something for everyone.

- Refuse to believe that your body wasn’t meant to wear jeans. Everyone is able to rock a great pair of jeans.

- Remember jeans are a great investment. They can be dressed up or dressed down and never go out of style. Good quality denim should last a long time.

- Ask for help. A good clothing boutique – like My Filosophy – should know their denim and know what looks good on. Ask! They will want to help you find the perfect fit.

Don’t dread denim! Find your perfect fit.

Back To School Jean

The calendar always seems to move so much faster in the summer months, it is already the middle of August. Vacations are coming to a close and the kids are starting to go back to school. Even though it is been a few years since I have had to return to the books in September the idea of back to school shopping always has stuck. Among other things I always pick up a few pairs of jeans this time of year. So I thought this would be a perfect opportunity to introduce you to the new fall line up from Fidelity! Every year they bring back classics and introduce some future classics. So here is a break down of the new styles from Fidelity.

Roxanne – The Roxanne is a high waist trouser, the rise will be around or just under the belly button, and the leg will be cut like a trouser pant, more relaxed in the thigh, fuller through the leg and finished with a heavy cuff. This is a great jean to dress up and wear to the office with a Joeffer Caoc top, or on the weekend with a cozy cashmere sweater.

Supreme – The Supreme is a mid rise boot cut not unlike the classic Belladonna from Fidelity, however the unique thing about the Supreme is that it has been cut smaller in the waist for the classic hourglass shapes. So if you always have that annoying gap in the waist of your jeans then the Supreme is exactly what you are looking for. A boot cut is a great classic cut; it looks amazing on all body shapes. Fitted through the leg with a slight flare at the bottom with enough room to fit that beautiful new Cole Haan boot under!

Magnolia – The magnolia is another classic boot cut shape and the uniqueness of this cut…is that it is cut 2 to 4 inches shorter then regular Fidelity cut. That is right ladies of a shorter stature the 30 inch inseam has returned. Say a fond farewell to your tailor they will have to work on someone else’s jeans because you are going to find them just skimming the top of you new Donald J. Pliner FLAT boot!

Along with these new fun designs from Fidelity you can expect to see all the classics cuts as well, Belladonna, Hyacinth, Tigerlily, Japan Rose, Skip, Scoop, Octavia, Lotus, Honeysuckle…etc. Come on in so we can find your perfect back to school pair!

Boots have arrived at My Filosophy! Fabulous boots, beautiful boots, badass boots, and best of all comfortable boots! That’s right I have to give it up to the teams at Cole Haan and Donald Pliner, because this year they have out done themselves and have brought to the table some truly outstanding boots! Boots have always been my favorite thing about fall, something about pulling leather over your calf that makes you feel powerful.
What can you not do in a fabulous pair of boots? What single item has the ability to make you feel truly feminine? A great pair of boots can not only transform an outfit, it can change an attitude. You have to admit when you are wearing boots you are ready for a fight…you are looking people up and down and thinking my boots could take you. A Great pair of boots is a modern women’s armor. They protect us from the elements, weather or otherwise, it’s no accident that everyone female superhero comic book or otherwise has her own signature pair. No reason you shouldn’t have a pair yourself! As my superhero Nancy Sinatra immortalized “These boots are meant for walking, and that’s just what they’ll do!” Ready ladies…start walking!

Light jeans have gotten a bad rap in the past few years as being an instant way to gain 10 pounds! But it isn’t true, lighter washes can be just as slimming as a darker wash, and are super cute and great for the summer. The key with looking slim in denim is finding the right fit, fading, and shading. Denim can be faded and manipulated to make thighs look slimmer, legs longer, hips smaller, and tushies tighter…or curvier if need be. Try on many different styles to find the perfect fit for you, and if the wash is a little lighter then Stacey and Clinton have recommended just try it, and be pleasantly surprised!

Jason Matlo ready-to-wear designer from Vancouver opened Edmonton Fashion Week with a bang, I mean when thigh high patent leather boots walk down the runway I take notice. When the models have long horse hair pony tails it tends to get my attention. However nothing keeps my attention longer then impeccably beautiful clothes, and Jason’s show held my attention from start to finish. His pieces stood out among the shiny patent leather to show their true beauty. His impeccable tailoring was clear from the first sheath dress to the amazing pant suits. A true testament to his ability that his clothes over powered the bondage hardware. Myself and the rest of fashion lovers were treated to a show of true fashion, a delight to all the senses, and true idea of who Jason Matlo is as an a designer and person, an elegant, rock star-type.
Wedding Season

As summer approaches our mailboxes begin to fill with the familiar linen paper, lace adorned wedding invitations. As we fill in out the RSVP cards your mind always travels to “what am I going to wear?” A question we hear often at My Filosophy usually followed by… What is appropriate? Can I wear black? Is this neck line too low? The answers… It depends; it depends, if you have to ask…yes! The wedding rules are always changing, black is becoming more accepted, but try punching it up with colourful Joanna Bisley jewelry or a bright Chloe Angus button wrap. Colour in my mind is always the best choice and instead of thinking black slimming….think well designed slimming! Joeffer Caoc’s dresses and separates come in bright beautiful summer colours and are cut and gathered in ways to hide any imperfection. So regardless of the wedding theme, destination, or time of day remember My Filosophy’s got you covered. But remember filosophistas there is only one girl wearing white that day!

Jessica McClintock frocks are in full force and grads from all over are taking advantage of the seasons trendiest styles. Some have opted for the long, elegant, traditional grad dresses. However, most are going for the young, cute and flirty short dresses. So the question is, are girls these days a little more practical then girls of the past? Are they actually thinking about wearing their dress twice? I think the answer might be YES! As much as I loved the long train on my grad dress, the footprints never really came out… And although there is still a chance I may go to a Millennium themed ball, the more likely reality is that my own Jessica McClintock grad dress will forever remain in its garment bag. It seems the students this year may have actually become the teachers.

From all of us here at My Filosophy congratulations Class of 2009!!

The ground hog saw his shadow... and all I can say is “Oh no you didn’t!”. February is here and spring is in sight. Let’s be honest, December was a brutal month. The endless snow falls, the hollowly winds, and of course not to be forgotten the bitter cold. This year we deserve an early spring! My plan to make sure the little fury guy eats his predictions is self-fulfilling prophesy. I am packing up my sweaters, putting away my winter boots, scarves and mittens I was smitten but it is time to meet my Tupper wear.
I will start by filling my closet with Ronen Chen’s bright corals, pinks, and teals, adding light cotton large print skirts, and dresses. Don my feet with every new bright coloured open-toe Cole Haan, and Donald J. Pliner wedge. So help us bring spring to Edmonton, stop by My Filosophy and do your part.

Now, a Filosophista never plays favorites, but I L.O.V.E, love these bags. The elegant design, the feel of the leather, the adorable and outrageous girly pink suede lining, give me more goose bumps than my first kiss. Her collection is full of variety. From the practical Market Totes, to the classic Grace Portfolio Clutch, right to the ultra-hip Harmony Hobo. These bags will dress up any outfit and make you stand out in a sea of ‘C’ monograms!
