Brand Spotlight | LOVAS Wesley Badanjak

Tuesday, July 19, 2011 3:06:44 PM America/Denver

My Filosophy is proud to welcome LOVAS Wesley Badanjak to our fashionable family of Canadian brands. Born and bred in Toronto and armed with a Bachelor of Design Honours degree from Ryerson University, designer Wesley Badanjak has garnered many awards for his distinctive style.

In 2008, Badanjak founded LOVAS with the vision to make every woman feel exceptional, regardless of age, race or size. “Women need to be true to their personal tastes and really work to dress the body they have, not the body they want,” says Badanjak, which is a filosophy we truly believe in. “Taking stock of your best features and playing them up with the proper clothes and accessories will make any woman look slim, svelte and confident.” What we love about LOVAS? The brand focuses on classic, tailored silhouettes, fashion forward looks and luxurious fabrics that are remarkably wearable. Just a few features we know our Filosophistas will adore!

Badanjak believes that the Canadian woman, the LOVAS woman, is very discerning. She wants fashion but is not a slave to trends, is savvy and sophisticated, and has an open view on style, coming from such a multicultural country. His love of history and Canadian heritage has inspired him to design his Fall|Winter 2011 collection around the story of his mother’s immigration from Croatia to Canada. It is a fusion of modern elements, retro cuts and traditional Slavic prints.

Adventures in Aventura

Friday, May 13, 2011 2:05:12 PM America/Denver

I love to wear Joeffer Caoc dresses and could wear them every single day. Well, almost every single day.

We all have those days: the lazy Sundays when we just want to kick back and wear whatever or the casual Friday at the lake when we just want to wear something comfortable by the campfire. My jersey dresses are beyond comfortable, but are they really camping or hiking appropriate? Joeffer dresses are perfect for lunch out with friends or a quick errand or two, sure, but for those days that I want to run around, go hiking or maybe spend time paying with the nephew, I need something else. I need Aventura.

The brand’s mission is to provide great, comfortable eco-friendy clothing to women. This is an outdoorsy and casual brand, and looks great paired with a Chloe Angus top and Flojo flip flops. A pair of Aventura capris or shorts is the perfect companion for any weekend adventure.   I can’t wait to wear my sparrow brown Aventura shorts for summer walks in the Devonian Gardens this summer.  Best of all, the Aventura line is machine washable and hassle-free which is great for any woman who plans on spending time outdoors this summer. Regardless of how hard we try, it’s impossible to keep our clothes clean at the best of times, let alone when we’re sitting lake-side helping the kids build sandcastles.

If you’re looking for some great weekend clothing, stop by My Filosophy to try on Aventura. With a great variety of pieces from shorts to capris, dresses to jackets, you’ll easily find that perfect piece for your next adventure!

The Best Brights this Season

Tuesday, April 12, 2011 4:41:23 PM America/Denver

Each season, we look forward to the new fashions arriving at My Filosophy. Fall, with its cozy sweaters and trendy boots, is regarded as the biggest fashion season of the year. Children go back to school, men and women return to work after summer vacations, and stores sell a plethora of gorgeous outfits to get you ready and in style for the season ahead. Shelves and racks are stocked with dark, rich colors, and the clothing is fun yet functional for the winter ahead.

This Filosophista, however, is a spring gal. I do adore shopping in the fall – any excuse to go out and to buy gorgeous new clothes is a good one, but I am not nearly as excited for the fall as I am for the spring. And this spring, there is nothing I am more excited for than the new Joeffer Caoc pieces coming to My Filosophy!

I wear something by Joeffer Caoc nearly every day of the week. His classic cardigans are a staple in my daily wardrobe, and I love his dresses more than anything else in my closet. Sadly, the winter is a touch too cold for dresses unless you layer hard: tights, a chunky cardigan, boots, a scarf, maybe a set of earmuff… And I try not to play favorites, but I prefer the spring shades so much more. Sure, black, brown, red and navy are great wardrobe staples, but somewhere around mid-January, I’m desperate to get more fun brights in my closet. Isn’t winter depressing enough with the lack of color outside and abundance of poor weather?

This season, Joeffer’s jersey pieces feature three fantastic bright tones, and I can’t wait! His jersey collection is still made of the same luxurious, machine washable jersey we all know and love, but the new jersey colors are stunning and lust-worthy:

1.    Cobalt.

Blue is the hue of peace and tranquility. Regardless of the hectic occasion you’re heading to, you’ll feel calm and collected in this cool blue dress.

2.    Fuchsia

This show stopping color is rarely found in nature and is an instant attention grabber. Do you want everyone to notice you when you walk into a room? Wear this gorgeous dress and all eyes will be on you!

3.    Kelly Green

What is more fun and fresh than green? It’s a surprisingly under worn color but looks great on many women. This color is easy on the eyes and a perfect color for any day!

I will be picking up at least one dress in each color. A woman can really never have too many dresses in her closet, don’t you agree? And for those of you who prefer more natural and neutral shades, there are some great wardrobe basics from Joeffer Caoc at My Filosophy this season as well!

The Kairos Soho: A new and unexpected love

Tuesday, February 8, 2011 12:18:36 PM America/Denver

OH Filosophistas, I have so many friends who love shoes and handbags. They love the excitement of sliding their feet into a new pair of heels, and they love the excitement of taking a new purse for a night on the town. I do not share their excitement.

To me a handbag is just that, a bag to lug around my life. Unfortunately, my wallet, lipstick, keys, hand moisturizer do not usually fit in my pockets so I would constantly carry a ratty old tote bag with me.

A friend of mine, tired of my awful tote bag, bought me a Kairos Soho from My Filosophy. At first, I was a little weary. I was in love with the rich, gorgeous, Italian leather, but would the across-the-body style suit me? Would the Soho carry the belongings that I insist on schlepping with me on a day-to-day basis? How would this stunning bag compare to my trusted tote bag?

In order to put my bag to the test, I took the Soho on vacation with me. I am a light traveler, and the Soho was the perfect airport companion. It carried my passport, my wallet, a snack, my novel and the usual plethora of lotions, lip glosses and pens I love need to carry. As the trip went on, I fell more in love with the Soho and its features each day. The across-the-body style was perfect for a hands-free, worry-free way to carry my belongings, and no matter what I put in there, it was easy to carry. Plus, with both compartments zipped up, I had no worries about my belongings falling out or going missing!

Needless to say, my disgusting tote bag has been put in the back of the closet where it belongs, and my Kairos Soho has become my day-to-day bag! I love my new bag (and I know exactly what I’m buying my mom and my sisters for their birthdays)!

Xoxo
